First Presidential Debate

Last evening on the campus of Ole' Miss the two major party candidates for President of the United States met in debate. Senator John Sidney McCain III (R-AZ) and Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) stood on the stage and answered the questions of Jim Lehrer of PBS.

I was unable to watch this debate in real time last evening. However, I did tape the event and have watched it this evening. I am a political junkie, as you my regular readers know. Therefore this is a fun event for me. I wanted to post only a brief comment on the debate as it is would yield too long of a post to provide critical analysis of the overall debate.

Here are a few brief thoughts. I believe that Senator McCain did very well in the debate. He articulate his position on the economy and foreign affairs very well. I believe that he looked very presidential and in my opinion was the winner of the debate.

Senator Obama did better than I expected. He was articulate much of the time but did stumble as he often does without teleprompters. I was not pleased with his answers. I also found him less respectful than Senator McCain. Mr. Obama regularly referred to Senator McCain as John while Mr. McCain consistently referred to his opponent as Senator Obama. I think this demonstrates a clear difference.

I look forward to the next debates. Seriously, I am very disturbed that I will be traveling next week. I could have had free tickets to a VP debate watch party and which Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) will be appearing after the debate! Oh well - maybe there will be another chance to see her here in St. Louis during the campaign.

For now - let me say - well done Senator McCain.

Barack Obama Doesn't Want My Vote

Today, my wife and I were at the local farmers' market. The market is a wonderful place to enjoy a cornucopia of delectable fresh vegetables, fruits, and other goodies. This market is also a place where many people play music and interact with the great crowds of people. Today, among those who were interacting with the crowds, were people wearing T-shirts like those in the picture. That's right, there at the market, there were a significant number of Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) supporters. These supporters were there for the purpose of registering people to vote.

First let me say, the task of these Obama supporters is a noble one. I firmly believe that we have a tremendous privilege in this great country to cast our vote. I want everyone to vote - it is their privilege and their civic duty. So, registering voters is a noble task.

Secondly let me say, these Obama supporters must not have wanted me to vote for some reason. Maybe it is that Senator Obama doesn't want my vote. I passed no less than five of these folks. Only one of them was actually talking to anyone. Yet - despite the fact that I purposefully made eye contact with them and smiled - no one asked me or my wife to register to vote!

Now - it is important to note that neither of us was wearing anything to indicate who we are, what our ideology is, what our religious beliefs are, or anything to suggest that we are Republicans. I found this amazing! I guess Barack Obama doesn't want my vote! This is one thing that Barack Obama and I agree on! It is not a problem that he does not want my vote - because I don't want to vote for him.

Shortly after this event took place this morning, I visited Senator John Sidney McCain III's (R-AZ) headquarters here in Missouri. While I was there I picked up two McCain / Palin yards signs which I am now very proudly displaying on my corner lot!

Nut Job Speaks in New York

Once again the United Nations had Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Machmoud I'm-a-nut-job, as Jay Leno calls him) address the General Assembly. Last year he spoke to them and then at Columbia University. Ahmadinejad demonstrated exactly why he is a nut job in his remarks today.

This tin-horned dictator stood before the UN General Assembly and indicated that the holocaust never happened, that the "Zionists" should be wiped off the map, and that the United States is about to go away. Anyone who would suggest that the horrible mark upon history that is the holocaust did not take place can only be a nut job!

While the United States certainly is not the perfect nation and we do have our share of issues to deal with - it is also insane to suggest that we are about to go away. The United States, despite all of her faults, is still the greatest nation on earth and has much going for it!

My advice to Mr. Ahmadinejad is quite simple. If you hate us so much - then get the hell out of our country, stop using our media as your platform to condemn us and our allies, and last but not least - don't bother to come back next year!

My "Silent Night" Place

Yesterday evening, I had the privilege of hearing a presentation on the hymnody of the Church. The presenter spoke of hymns giving us a place. In his presentation he described something he likes to often do with groups to illustrate his point. He said that he will tell the group members to put their heads down and close their eyes. While they are in this posture, he then has them sing Silent Night, Holy Night. When they are done, he has them lift their heads and then asks them where they were. He said that without fail - not one of them was in the room!

The point that the speaker was making is that the hymnody and the liturgy of the Church gives to the people of God a place. He further illustrated this point by telling a story of his father who had lost his place to severe illness and yet near the end of his life was still able to sing the hymnody and liturgy of the Church. He described how those words woven together with music provided his dying father a place - a place of comfort with His God, even when all of the other places in the world were long since departed.

I have been traveling since last evening and thus have spent a significant amount of time in the car. My thoughts have turned to my Silent Night Place a few times. For me, it seems that place is in front of the Altar (a particular altar - but I'd prefer not to say which one) on the Feast of the Nativity - Christmas Eve, at the candlelight Eucharist around midnight with a large candle in my hand lifted heavenward. In the background the congregation is singing the words of the hymn. My thoughts seem to always be of my paternal grandmother (I don't know why), there is always a tear running out of my right eye (as there is as I type this post), and the words I am signing sound a lot more like - Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht than Silent Night, Holy Night.

As I drove today, I happened to be near where my paternal grandmother is buried. I stopped for a few moments and visited her grave, along with that of a few other relatives. While I stood there in that sun drenched cemetery with the breeze gently blowing - I found myself in my Silent Night Place. Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, it provided me with the solace I needed as I carefully cleaned off the stones of my relatives and pulled back some old grass and dirt. Being in my Silent Night Place was truly a comfort.

As I drove a little further down the road I began to contemplate some of my other Silent Night places. I can visualize a my This is the Feast Place, my Jesus Christ is Risen Today Place, my O Day Full of Grace Place, my Lord Thee I Love Place, my ... places. Each one of them invokes different emotions and different images. Each one of them brings with it the comfort and solace of the text of the hymn or liturgy that provides the place.

As I visited these different places today, one thought continued to enter into my mind - Thanks be to God for the Liturgy and Hymnody of the Church. If I should ever loose my worldly places, as the presenters father did, I am grateful for the comfort that my hymns and liturgy will give me place.

I just don't think that is something that so much of the hollow and empty material used in the Church today can provide. I tried to think of my Our God is an Awesome God Place and it just didn't work. All I could think of was the annoying television add for "worship" CDs. I tried this with a couple of other Contemporary Christian Music pieces and found either no corresponding place or no comfort.

After this, I returned to a few more wonderful places. My O Sacred Head Now Wounded Place, my O God, O Lord of Heaven and Earth Place, my Water, Blood, and Spirit Crying Place, and another trip back to my Stille Nacht Platz.

So where is your Silent Night Place? I know that you have been there while reading this post. I bet you went to that place even before you finished reading. It's ok - that is what I wanted to you do. If you didn't - go now - I'll wait. I believe this is one of the most powerful tools I have heard of for illustrating the value of the Church's hymnody and liturgy.

Seven Years Ago

September 11, 2001 was a terrible day in the United States of America. On that day 1,000's of Americans were killed by Muslim Extremists, terrorists. Innocent Americans were killed for no reason in the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in a field in Shanksville, PA. On that day many heroes emerged: those who fought the terrorists in the air on United 93, the many Police, Fire, and Rescue personnel on the ground and countless others.

I remember the day well and I am sure that I will never forget it. I am thankful that our nation has been kept safe from further attacks from these terrorists. I am thankful that our United States Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard are doing their jobs both here at home and on the battle field abroad to keep us safe.

As September 11, 2008, the seventh anniversary, comes this year I hope that all of us will pause to remember those who died, give thanks for the heroes of that day and of the years of battle since. God Bless America!

Abortion - Jesus - Pontius Pilate

Perhaps you are wondering why abortion, Jesus, and Pontius Pilate are all together in the title of this post. The answer is simple - the Democrats have gone crazy on their attacks of Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK). Governor Palin was nominated just under two weeks ago by Senator John Sidney McCain III (R-AZ) as his running mate in the Presidential Election. Since that time, the Democrats have been working hard to scrape up every thing that they can on Sarah Palin in the hopes of discrediting her.

Ms. Carol Fowler (D-SC) who serves as the chairwoman of the South Carolina Democratic party has made a comment to the effect that Governor Palin only has one qualification for being the Republican nominee for Vice President. The qualification that she has indicated is that Sarah Palin has never had an abortion. Perhaps Ms. Fowler is not aware of the fact that the Republican Party has a Pro-Life Plank in their party platform!

Aside from the fact that the Republican Party is a Pro-Life party, I have to ask Ms. Fowler exactly what she believes is wrong with a woman not having had an abortion. I fail to see the problem here. After all - if these libs are as Pro-Choice as they desire to claim - then they would have no problem with the fact that a women has chosen life. Therein lies the problem - they are not Pro-Choice - they are in fact Pro-Abortion! Ms. Fowler has demonstrated that clearly.

One other thing Ms. Fowler - Sarah Palin is well qualified to be the Vice Presidential running mate of John McCain and she is also well qualified to step into the office of President if it becomes necessary. She has served as a mayor and the Governor of the State of Alaska. She has the executive experience necessary. The fact that she has not had an abortion is a good thing and it does qualify her to be on the Republican ticket but it is only one of her many excellent traits!

Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) has also made some interesting comments. It is from Mr. Cohen's comments that the second two parts of this post's title come into play. He has compared Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) to Jesus and Governor Sarah Palin to Pontius Pilate - observing that Pilate was a governor.

Let me set the record straight! Whether or not you support Senator Obama for President of the United States the fact remains that he most certainly is NOT the Incarnate Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ. For anyone to say that Senator Obama is Jesus is nothing short of blasphemous. Even to draw the comparison is absolutely ridiculous. There are many who would like to view Senator Obama as a messiah like candidate. They are entitled to their opinion however they are not entitled to actually equate Mr. Obama with the Christ. While I am setting the record straight, it is also inaccurate to equate Governor Palin with Pontius Pilate! Senator Palin is not setting out to crucify her opponent.

Mr. Cohen is apparently not the only person who has made such stupid comments. One begins to wonder just what is going on in the United States in this election. It would seem that many are not able to have the election take place in the realm of ideology but would rather reduce the election to such childish name calling. I would rather argue the issues and determine which candidate will best serve as President of the United States!

In case you are wondering I have made my decision. Senator John McCain is my choice for President. I am honored to support both he and his running mate, Governor Sarah Palin.

Slinging Mud - Slinging Lipstick

I guess the Presidential race has descended into the slinging mud stage of the of the campaign. You may recall that in her speech, Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) mentioned the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull: lipstick. Now the term lipstick has arisen in the presidential race again.

Today the term lipstick was raised by Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL)in comments he made about Senator John Sidney McCain III (R-AZ). Senator Obama was speaking about the fact that Senator McCain is billing himself as a candidate who will bring about significant change in Washington, D.C. Senator Obama suggested that McCain saying that he would bring change is like, "putting lipstick on a pig."

The question that faces us is this - was Senator Obama simply making a statement using this phrase - perhaps. Some have asserted that he was indirectly calling Senator McCain and Governor Palin pigs by using the lipstick line - perhaps. I am inclined to think that Senator Obama is going to wish that he had not started what some are already calling: lipstick-pig-gate. At the very least, one has to question his judgement in using this phrase in his remarks! One thing is for certain - with comments like these the mud slinging has begun!

Old Glory Left Behind - Resurrected

During the Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War, the Minnesota First Regiment triumphantly carried the Stars and Stripes in battle. As the regiment moved forward during the battle, when a soldier would fall while carrying the flag another would pick it up. At the end of the battle, the Union Army was victorious in no small part due to the efforts of the Minnesota First. The flag they carried resides in the Capitol Building in St. Paul, Minnesota. The flag of the Minnesota First certainly was not left behind.

Following the Democratic National Convention event at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver there were nearly 12,000 American Flags that were left behind. Apparently after Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) delivered his acceptance speech there were many flags left behind. According to a story in the Denver Post the Republican Party is providing a resurrection from the dump for these flags. They will be used at a rally for Senator John Sidney McCain III (R-AZ).

I am thankful to hear that these flags that the Democrats left behind are being properly respected by the McCain campaign. I was also proud to learn that it will be veterans who will bring these flags that represent the country they fought for onto the stage. This is a great story - I am glad that I read about it on another blog.

Republican National Convention - Day 4

Tonight at the Republican National Convention held at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Senator John Sidney McCain III (R-AZ) accepted his party's nomination to be the GOP candidate for President of the United States of America. Senator McCain will run along side his running mate, Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK), who delivered an exceptional speech last night. Together these two mavericks will reform Washington, D.C.

Senator McCain has served well in the United States. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, he entered military service. Serving as a pilot in the U.S. Navy, Senator McCain suffered injury in a tragic explosion on board an aircraft carrier in which many of his fellow soldiers were killed. Rather than leave military service after this tragic accident, John McCain forged on. Later, John McCain was shot down over Vietnam. He spent the next five and a half years as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton. He was beaten and continually tortured throughout his lengthy stay. When offered the opportunity to leave - John McCain said, "No." Why would he do this? He did this because he is a real American Hero who would not leave his comrades in the hell hole they were in.

Upon release from the Hanoi Hilton, Senator McCain arrived home in the United States. His service to the American People was far from over at this point. He ran for the United States House of Representatives. After he was elected, he went to work for America in Washington, D.C. He became a reformer who continually reached across the aisle to do what was right for the United States. He never worried about what was best for John McCain but rather what was best for America. This is why he was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution but did not hesitate to vote on issues against President Reagan's position when he disagreed with this great President.

Later, Senator McCain was elected by the people of the State of Arizona to serve in the United States Senate. He has served there with high distinction. He has continued his maverick style and continued to do what is best for America. He has consistently supported our troops and sought to stamp out terrorism in the War on Terror.

Senator John S. McCain entered the race for President of the United States and his party's nomination as their candidate. Throughout the Republican Primary races, John S. McCain remained the "straight talker" he is. In this way, he was victorious over numerous excellent candidates, including: Mitt Romney (R-MA), Mike Huckabee (R-AR), Rudy Giuliani (R-NY), Fred Thompson (R-TN), and Ron Paul (R-TX).

Tonight, this American Hero, this victorious candidate, this "Straight Talker" from Arizona, this Senator, this maverick, the next President of the United States, John S. McCain III accepted the Republican nomination as their candidate. Together with his well chosen running mate, Sarah Palin, he will press on to the White House. The McCain/Palin team will fight vigorously against their opponents, Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) and his Vice-Presidential running mate, Senator Joe Biden (D-DE).

Senator McCain's speech was introduced by another American Hero, his wife, Cindy McCain. The video which introduced the next First Lady described her selfless acts on behalf of many around the world in places that most of us would never desire to tread. She introduced us to the McCain children as she began her speech. Mrs. McCain spoke of her connections to the American People from the campaign trail. Her heartfelt remarks articulated that the McCain Campaign is not about the McCain's but rather about the American People. Her speech is a delightful contrast to the speech of Michelle Obama last week. There is no doubt which one of these women is ready to serve this nation as the First Lady, the next First Lady, Cindy McCain!

The final introduction for Mr. McCain's speech was given by video! This video demonstrated his status as an American Hero. The video also assured us that at his very core he is, in the words of his mother, "a mama's boy!" The video demonstrated his continued service to America and his strong basic American Values.

Senator John Sidney McCain III began his speech by expressing the rare privilege given to few Americans and accepted the Republican Party's nomination for President of the United States. It is a privilege that he accepted with "gratitude, humility, and confidence." He then gave tribute to his opponents in the primary process. He also paid tribute to the sitting President, George W. Bush for leading us in the dark days following September 11, 2001 and keeping us safe. He also gave tribute to First Lady, Laura Bush, as well as to Bush (41) and Barbara Bush.

Mr. McCain gave thanks to his wife, Cindy, and his seven children. He indicated that Cindy is very much his inspiration. He asserted that she will make a great First Lady, something that none of us can truly say, if we are honest, about the one many have described as a "street thug," Michelle Obama. Mr. McCain then paid tribute to his wonderful mother, Roberta McCain (Mrs. McCain is 96 years of age and looks great seated in arena)!

Finally, Mr. McCain gave thanks to his supporters and pledged not to let us down. He also promised to earn the trust of the undecided voters. Then in a classy way he pledged that despite differences, Senator Barack Obama and his supporters have his respect as fellow Americans! This respect and honor aside, there is no doubt, John McCain intends to win in November!

When McCain and Palin win they will work for the American People. His goal will be to get us on the road to prosperity and peace. Interrupted by a protester, Senator McCain simply implored his audience not to be distracted by the "ground noise and the static!" He began to speak directly to those who are in tough times and assured them that whether looking for work or a way to keep their home, he would stand by their side and fight for their future.

Senator McCain then spoke of his partner in this race, Governor Sarah Palin. He thanked the delegates that the American People for giving her a warm reception following her excellent speech last evening. He then spoke of her record of service and leadership. He said, "She stands up for what is right and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down!" He is proud to have introduced her to the country and can't wait to introduce her to Washington! "Change is Coming!"

The promise of this ticket to fix the country's problems is a promise that we, the American People can count on. Senator McCain acknowledged that he is a maverick. He knows that this means that he understands who he works for - "You - the American People." Senator McCain is a servant leader in the truest sense of the term. His pledge is to veto pork barrel spending and make those who try to push it public!

John McCain pledged to fight for the American People. He illustrated with examples of many who are in need in many and various ways. The lives of Americans matter to John McCain and he will fight for them. This is why he has also fought for our military. This is why when told that he would loose his bid for the White House if he supported the War and the Surge - he simply and honorably stood up for what he believed was right for America and said, "I'd rather loose an election than loose a war!"

John McCain said that both parties lost the trust of the American People. He pledged to change that and win back the trust of the American People. This will be done by getting the party of Lincoln, Roosevelt (that's Teddy Roosevelt not F.D.R. for those of you in Rio Linda), and Reagan back the basics. In a winsome way, he then articulated the primary planks of the Republican Party - the basics that the Grand Old Party was founded upon. These very fundamentals are what has made America great and will continue to do so!

Once again in a winsome way, he drew the lines of comparison with Barack Obama's position on the key issues and his own. He articulated clearly how John McCain's position on these issues will do what is best for America. Taxes will be kept low and even reduced thus creating jobs, enhancing the economy, improving the lives of American families, ridding the government of failed programs and excess spending, opening new markets, and keeping America safe! He also spoke of the importance of strengthening the American education system.

A key project in the McCain Administration will be to embark on a very ambitious project to reduce dependence upon foreign oil. We will drill wells and drill them now. The problem will be attacked on multiple fronts by: building nuclear power plants, use flex fuel, use wind, use natural gas, use solar energy, and many other possibilities. Once again we need to show the world "how Americans lead."

We need to continue to fight Al Qaeda so that they don't attack us again. We will also face the threats of Iran and others. Senator McCain is not "afraid of them" he is "prepared for them." Mr. McCain articulated his knowledge in foreign policy and how to stand up to those with whom negotiations is not possible. He spoke of his grandfather (who died the day after he returned for war), his father (a military hero), and his own experience in war. Mr. McCain says, "I hate war." He doesn't want war but rather intends to "build the foundations for a stable and enduring peace."

Senator McCain will do what is necessary to defend America and get her moving again. Mr. McCain said, "I have that record and the scars to prove it - Mr. Obama does not!" Senator McCain WILL do what is necessary for the American People. He said, "he has been an imperfect servant for many years but he has been a servant, first, last, and always."

He said, "He was blessed by misfortune." He felt that he was blessed because, "he served in the company of heroes." He used to think that he was most important - then he was shot down over Hanoi! He was imprisoned and left to die. He described the horrors of his time as a POW and described how his fellow POWs saved his life. He was offered the opportunity to go home but stood by the code that he could not go home until those who had been imprisoned before he was! He stayed in that hell hole and noted that many had it worse than he did! McCain said, "he fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's." No longer was he his own man, he was, "his country's."

Senator McCain said that he isn't running because he is someone who feels that he is anointed to save the country in her moment of need. Rather, he asserted that, "my country saved me and I will fight for her" as long as he lives, "so help me God!" He then called upon the American People to live out their God given vocations as they serve their country in many and various ways. He plans to fight so that every American gives thanks to God for the privilege of being an American and calls upon us to fight with him! "We are Americans. We never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history!"

Senator John Sidney McCain III has delivered a powerful acceptance speech. He worked from his "town hall meeting" stage as he spoke. He presented a well reasoned rhetorical argument as to why he should be elected President of the United States. he spoke clearly and strongly and moved in his speech from conversational to a strong assertive speech. Senator McCain's speech was excellent! He lived up to the increased expectancy of a great speech after the speech of Governor Sarah Palin last evening.

The balloons are dropping along with the confetti. Senator and Mrs. John McCain are on the stage receiving the applause of the crowd. Together with the next President are Sarah Palin and her family, the McCain children, Mrs. Roberta McCain, and others. Vote John McCain for President - he just gave you every reason you need to do so!

Republican National Convention - Day 3

This evening at the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the Honorable Mayor (of America) Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) took the stage. Mayor Giuliani gave a rousing speech and wholeheartedly endorsed Senator John S. McCain (R-AZ), his former opponent in the Republican Primary.

Mayor Giuliani's speech was well given. He provided a solid endorsement for Senator McCain. He also articulated why he believes that Senator McCain is the right man to lead America as her President. Mayor Giuliani is convinced that John McCain will do what is right for America and defend us against further terrorist attacks, something he is not able to say about Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL). He is able to say this of John McCain because Mr. McCain has demonstrated that he always does what he believes is best for the United States of America even if that is not what is in his personal best interest, as he has done at the Hanoi Hilton, in the U.S. Congress, as a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution, in the United States Senate, and even in the midst of his bid for the Presidency!

Mayor Giuliani also gave a resounding endorsement of Senator McCain's selection for his Vice Presidential running mate, Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK). He assured the delegates that she has the executive experience necessary to serve as the Vice President, and if necessary as the President. She has more executive experience than Senator Obama and Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) combined! She is a strong leader and a dedicated mother and the press dare not question her on this - since they would not and have not questioned any man on this issue!

Following Mayor Giuliani's speech, Governor Sarah Palin stepped to the podium to accept her party's nomination as their candidate for Vice President of the United States. In a brief introduction she introduced her family provided us a brief introduction to her children, husband, and parents.

Governor Palin then directly attacked her opponent's charge that she is not qualified to serve. She articulated what it takes to serve as the Vice President. She demonstrated that her experience as a mayor exceeds that of Barack Obama's as a community organizer, she actually had responsibility. She also directly attacked the media and indicated that she is not running for their popularity but to serve the American People.

She is articulating a solid plan for American. She is describing how the McCain/Palin Administration will work towards energy Independence. She has also spoken of the kind of leader that Senator McCain will be as President. Both of them will lead as reformers in Washington and neither of them are afraid to exercise veto power, cut excess spending, and do what is right for America!

Sarah Palin now is directly attacking Senator Obama on the issues. She is illustrating that beyond the fancy stage, columns, and bright lights of Denver his goals are not good for America. In her description of Senator Obama's plans, she is articulating the increase of taxes across the board, the increase of governments size, and his lack of a plan for victory in the War on Terror!

It is clear in her very solid speech that Sarah Palin, who has been attacked by the Drive-By Media as being out of touch and ill informed on the issues, that she is acutely aware of the issues in this campaign. Furthermore, she has artfully described those in America who are important, the American People, in Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, and all across the Fruited Plain! She has also illustrated her knowledge of foreign policy issues, not just in Georgia and Russia, but in many other places around the Globe!

Governor Palin is now extolling the virtues of her running mate. She is demonstrating why he is fit to be President of the United States. She is demonstrating that though she comes from far, very far, outside of Washington, D.C. she is intimately aware of what takes place there and knows how things work in Washington, D.C. Governor Palin will work well alongside Senator McCain to shake up Washington and do what is best for the People of America, you and me!

"There is only man in this election who has ever really fought for you," Sarah Palin boldly stated. Of course she speaks of the war hero, John S. McCain! He will take the very same principles, drive, and devotedness to the service of America.

Once again, Sarah Palin is echoing the words of those who have spoken of John McCain's heroism. John McCain is certainly an American Hero and a dedicated servant of America. His service has demonstrated his character - the character of the President of the United States of America.

Governor Palin has completed her remarks. She has delivered a phenomenal speech to the delegates in Saint Paul and a National audience. She has performed incredibly well and demonstrated her great poise and tremendous ability to lead. Sarah Palin just showed all of us why John S. McCain has made an excellent choice as his running mate! He is now there to congratulate her and briefly address the crowd. Wow - I dare say her speech was the most impressive speech I have heard in either convention thus far!

Republican National Convention - Day 2, Part II

A video tribute to one of the greatest Presidents in American History was just played at the Republican National Convention. President Ronald Wilson Reagan was one of our greatest Presidents to be sure. It is regrettable that he has now left us in death. Nevertheless, he laid a firm foundation in the Reagan Revolution! A foot soldier in his revolution was Senator John McCain (R-AZ) - the work can go on if we elect Senator McCain. So in President Reagan's words, let's "win one for the Gipper!" Incidentally, she is not present tonight but let us not forget the ever gracious First Lady, Nancy Reagan!

Former Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) is now addressing the assembly. A former opponent of Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is supporting Senator McCain for President. He has spoken of Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK)as a wise choice. Among her many great strengths, he has reminded us that she is the only one on any party's ticket who knows how to field dress a moose!

Senator Thompson is speaking of the strengths of John McCain. He is speaking of his honor and his tremendous military service and support for our military. It is clear that Senator McCain is a great American Hero. He avoided a return home after injuries in order to continue to serve his country. After all of that he was shot down. He was near death and refused to give up military secrets in exchange for medical care for he was putting his country first. Near death he forged on. He was treated terribly for two years and Senator Thompson is describing it in terrible detail.

Senator McCain was given the chance to leave the Hanoi Hilton for propaganda's sake. His captors said it would be bad for him if he stayed. Nevertheless, Senator McCain stayed there in the prison because he refused to leave without his comrades who had been there longer. No matter how hard they beat him he did not give in. Senator McCain endured this terrible treatment for five and a half years. Mr. McCain did this to serve us.

Senator Thompson just said, "Being a POW doesn't qualify anyone to be President but it does reveal character." That is the understatement of the evening. There are many things that qualify Mr. McCain to be President. His treatment and endurance in Hanoi tell us something more important - we can trust him with the Presidency, we know his character! We will be safe with him as the Commander in Chief!

Fred Thompson is articulating many great things about Senator McCain. From all of this and much more it is clear that Senator John McCain has solid character and always does what he believes is best for the United States! He even voted against his hero - Ronald Reagan because he thought it was best for the country. This is the kind of President that I want - someone who always does what is best for America!

Senator Thompson is doing a fine job of illustrating the problems with Senator Barack Hussein Obama and the Democratically controlled congress. In short, their policies are bad for America. Senator John McCain will do what America needs - that has been proven by his track record of service to America. It is clear that Senator McCain puts the United States of America (you and me) first!

Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) is now addressing the convention. He is a former running mate of Vice-President Al Gore in 2000. This Democrat turned Independent has been a strong supporter of Senator John McCain in his bid for the Presidency. He has received a warm welcome to the dais. He still considers himself a Democrat in many ways but his party turned against him so he had to run as an Independent.

Perhaps you are wondering why he is there. Perhaps you don't expect to find him there. Senator Lieberman is there for a very important reason. He believes, as he just said, John McCain is the best person to be President. Senator Lieberman wants what is best for the United States. For him party is important but America is more important. In his estimation, John McCain is the candidate who will do "what he has done this week - put our country first!" It is, in Lieberman's words, "the code by which John has lived his life." Senator Lieberman - I wholeheartedly agree!

I am a strong Republican but I also agree that we need to do what is best for the United States. I believe that John McCain is the best man for the Presidency. It is refreshing to see a Democrat who is not afraid to give us some "Straight Talk." I have to give credit to Senator Lieberman for supporting the best man for the job not just his party's nominee.

Senator Joe Lieberman has indicated that Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) has not really accomplished anything in the United States Senate. He just indicated that even President William Jefferson Clinton accomplished more than Barack Obama in working with Republicans!

Senator Lieberman has now endorsed the selection of Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) as the running mate for John McCain. He believes she is a strong reformer as she has demonstrated by her leadership in Alaska. Senator Lieberman believes that together McCain and Palin will fight for America and for us and as maverick reformers they will do it well! He believes that they will bring the National Unity that we need in America today, especially because of the War on Terror!

Senator Lieberman has traveled the globe with Senator McCain. He has asserted, based on first hand experience, that Senator McCain is the kind of president we need because our allies will trust him and and our enemies will fear him.

Senator Lieberman is speaking directly to his fellow Democrats and Independents. He is inviting them to support John McCain even though they might not ordinarily vote Republican. He is arguing that these are extraordinary times and that John McCain is an extraordinary candidate. He asserts that these folks, as we Republicans, can count on John McCain to do what is best for the American People. He is asking them to vote for the person who is best for our country in November, not for the party they happen to belong to. The man who is best for America is Senator John McCain!

All of this evening's speeches have been very strong. I believe that Mrs. Bush presented a strong presentation as did her husband, President George W. Bush. Both Senator Thompson and Senator Lieberman presented strong reasons to vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. A great opening evening of speeches in St. Paul. Tomorrow will bring more great speeches including Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Governor Sarah Palin. I am looking forward to it.

Republican National Convention - Day 2, Part I

Tonight, the Republican National Convention is launching into full swing. Several speeches are set for this evening. President George W. Bush will address the delegates via satellite from the White House. President Bush is not in St. Paul because of Hurricane Gustav. He is to be introduced by his wife, Laura Bush. President Bush's speech will be heard by his parents, President George H.W. (41) and Barbara Bush who are in the assembly in St. Paul.

Prior to Mrs. Bush's speech a video is being played regarding a real American Hero. He is Michael Monsoor a United States Navy Seal who jumped on a grenade to save his fellow Seal's lives. The video narrated by actor Gary Sinise portrayed what a Congressional Medal of Honor Winner looks like - a man who gave his all for his country. The very same kind of man as Senator John McCain (R-AZ). Orson Swindle, a former POW with John McCain came to the stage to thank the military men and women, like Michael Monsoor for their service - wow what a fitting tribute!

First Lady Laura Bush was introduced and has taken her place at the podium. She is presently recognizing her in-laws. She is also announcing her support for Senator John McCain and his running mate, Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK). She is articulating the strong significance of women in the Republican Party by listing many leading women in President Bush's cabinet such as Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice!

Mrs. Bush is now speaking of her husband. She is referring back to her convention speech of 8 years ago. She is speaking of how she said that her husband would not waver. She is speaking of the increase of student achievement, a hall-mark of her roll in as First Lady. She is also speaking of her husband's accomplishments during his tenure as President of the United States. Ladies and Gentlemen this is what a First Lady looks like (as was her mother-in-law) - I believe that Cindy McCain fits this bill but Mrs. Michelle Obama does not! Mrs. Bush has just hit upon the most significant point of her husband's Presidency, he has kept us safe during the War on Terror!

President George W. Bush is addressing the convention from the Cross Hall of the White House. Fox News is reporting that the Cross Hall is just inside the East Entrance to the White House. A fitting place for the President to speak to his party as they prepare to nominate his successor.

President Bush is referring to his need to oversee the Federal Government's response to Hurricane Gustav. It is fitting to see the President doing his job in Washington as he prepares to lead to Louisiana tomorrow! Well done Mr. President.

President Bush is going to speak of his support for Senator McCain, but very fittingly he is recognizing his parents. He speaks of his work behind the Resolute Desk (if you don't know what that is, it is the President's Desk in the Oval Office - watch National Treasure II for some further background). From his vantage point as President, Mr. Bush has stated that John McCain is the man for the job.

President Bush is illustrating John McCain's honor as a POW and his refusal to be released until his comrades were also released. Wow - what a great quote, "If the Hanoi Hilton can't break the will of John McCain, the angry left never will!"

President Bush is speaking of Senator McCain's leadership in Washington as well as his independence. It is clear that Mr. Bush believes that Senator McCain knows how to do things for his country first. He supported the troop surge even though many told him it would cost him the election because he knew it was what was right for America!

President Bush is now announcing his support for Senator McCain's selection of Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential running mate.

President Bush is indicating that he is optimistic about the future of the United States. He is also optimistic that the McCain/Palin ticket will be victorious in November because they are best for America.

Mrs. Bush is now asserting that John McCain has what it takes to be President and is now speaking of Cindy McCain's experience and ability to assume the roll of First Lady.

I believe, though short, President Bush's address was a well articulated support and endorsement for John McCain. Mrs. Bush has given a graceful bookend to the President's speech and a graceful thanks to the American People. What a class act!

Republican National Convention - Day 1

Well, there is very little to report from Day One of the Republican National Convention. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) elected to have a minimal opening to the first day of the convention because of the threat of Hurricane Gustav to the Gulf Coast.

Personally, I don't really believe that it should have been necessary to postpone the convention. I understand President Bush being involved with the hurricane, he is the sitting President and so it is meet, right, and salutary for him to be involved. I don't however see that it should be necessary for the business of the nation to come to a halt just because of disastrous weather in one region. At the same time, I realize that Senator McCain probably made a wise decision for had he not done this, the Democrats would have had a field day.

The other big news is that Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) has a 17 year old daughter who is pregnant! WOW the Drive-By Media is sure trying to dig some stuff up on her. If this is the worst they can come up with, that's great!

Don't mistake me for saying that it is ok that Mrs. Palin's daughter is pregnant out of wedlock. It surely is not! However, given that she is, I was pleased to hear that she is engaged to the father and they will be getting married. It demonstrates that though they made a mistake they are doing the right thing now. I also believe that it is good that she is planning to have the child.

As John McCain said in his add on the night of Senator Barack Obama's (D-IL)acceptance speech (see add in post below), "we don't often recognize the achievements of our opponents." I would like to do that now. I understand from discussion on Fox News that Mr. Obama excoriated those who were using Governor Palin's daughter's pregnancy to make a political issue out of. He is to be commended for acknowledging that this is not something to make a political issue out of and for telling his campaign not to do so. So, kudos to Mr. Obama!

I look forward to the Republican Convention tonight and being able to post comments regarding the doing's in St. Paul. Maybe there will be some more of the crazy anarchists rioting in the streets making idiots out of themselves!
